73% of US adults are uncomfortable with trans athletes competing on teams that do not match their sex birth, according to a recent Pew Research Center poll.
Sophie Cunningham is set on her values. She continues to stand firm despite the hate she endures.
On Saturday, before her game with the New York Liberty, Sophie tripled down on her statements that women’s sports need to be protected.

Sophie Cunningham: Yeah, you know, I think I said what I said, and these are— it’s nothing new. It’s happened every game. And so I’ve already kind of stated how I feel about all that. I’m focused on New York tonight. I think, yeah, we clinched playoffs, but for me, it’s dialing in with basketball.
And it’s cool that people are using their freedom of speech and doing what they want to do, but that’s them. And I’m in my two feet. I’m where I’m at. And so I’m just focused on New York.

Sophie then went out and placed her hand on her heart for the National Anthem while the angry Liberty players hid in the locker room.
