Florida Democrat Senate candidate Angie Nixon has repeatedly attacked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), calling its officers “THUGS” and “kidnappers,” comparing immigration detention facilities to a “modern day concentration camp,” and arguing that the agency should be abolished as she campaigns against incumbent Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL).
Nixon, a Florida state representative and member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), has made abolishing ICE a central part of her immigration platform. In one post, she referred to ICE officers as “THUGS.” In another, she called abolishing ICE a “moral choice” and said the United States must stop funding an agency that “terrorizes our neighborhoods, acts like a rogue paramilitary force, and operates completely in the dark.”
Nixon described ICE enforcement as “state-sanctioned violence” and has characterized the agency as a “weaponized paramilitary force that is designed to terrorize.”
In a clip, Nixon referred to ICE officers as “kidnappers” while advocating that agents be unmasked. She has also compared immigration detention facilities to a “modern day concentration camp” — a characterization she later doubled down on — and compared ICE agents to modern-day slave catchers.
Nixon has even insinuated that ICE agents might be shot: “We are a stand your ground state…I am concerned that some ICE officials might be shot.”
She has also argued that ICE officers would racially profile and fatally shoot black Americans and said she wants “bad actors” investigated, arrested, and jailed.
“We’re black. They gonna profile us, too. They can’t tell the difference between a black American that is a descendant of slaves here in this country or someone from Jamaica or Nigeria. They are going to racially profile us and they are going to escalate things and they are going to shoot and kill us,” Nixon said.
“And they are going to get away with it unless we send people like me to Washington, DC, who are going to scrutinize and launch investigations to go after bad actors. To arrest them and to put them in jail and to call for an end and an abolishment of ICE,” she continued.
“We don’t need ICE. ICE was designed — ICE came about after the towers went down, after September 11th, and it came about to evoke fear and to target and to profile the Muslim community. It has now morphed into this agency that goes after immigrants, that demonizes immigrants,” Nixon added.
Nixon has also said Republicans are “literally trying to kill us” while discussing ICE enforcement.
“And folks often say, like, ‘Oh, are you going to be able to work across the aisle with the Republicans?’ They are not trying to work across the aisle. They are literally trying to kill us, and they are doing it on camera,” Nixon said in an interview clip shared by RNC Research.

On August 19, ICE lodged a detainer against Shaquiel Sheldon Williams, an illegal alien from Jamaica charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after authorities said he stabbed two Burger King employees in Panama City Beach after refusing to pay for his food.
Antonio Cordova-Sajic, an illegal alien from Guatemala, was convicted of lewd or lascivious conduct in Fort Myers. Victor Hugo Casillo-Vallejo, an illegal alien from the Dominican Republic, was convicted in Tampa of robbery with a firearm, aiding and abetting Hobbs Act robbery, and aiding and abetting the use of a firearm in a crime of violence.
Edy Jose Rivas-Rizo, an illegal alien from Nicaragua, was accused of fatally stabbing his roommate after surveillance footage allegedly showed him chasing the victim with a machete before the two fought on the ground. Witnesses disarmed Rivas-Rizo, according to the DHS account, and the victim later collapsed and was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Carlos Suarez Contreras, an illegal alien from Venezuela, was charged in connection with a fatal vehicle incident in Panama City Beach after authorities said he drove without a valid license and struck an 82-year-old grandmother in a grocery store parking lot.
DHS has also highlighted Wilmark Orozco-Huerta, an illegal alien from Mexico convicted in Polk County of vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter, and DUI with serious bodily injury; Julio Rudolfo Roldan-Hernandez, an illegal alien from Guatemala convicted in Tampa of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine; and Deangelo Byer, an illegal alien from the Bahamas convicted of aggravated battery in Groveland.
Other cases include Abel Alejandro Perez-Beltran, an illegal alien from Cuba convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Lee County; Lionel Boursiquot, an illegal alien from Haiti arrested in Doral whose criminal history DHS said includes homicide, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and carrying a concealed weapon; and Roberto Suarez-Friot, an illegal alien from Cuba convicted in Tampa of aggravated battery, resisting an officer, criminal mischief, and aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability.
DHS has further highlighted Yeilan Oliver-Roque, an illegal alien from Cuba convicted in Miami of sexual battery with a deadly weapon causing serious injury, and Hermelindo Sanchez-Atempa, an illegal alien from Mexico convicted in Polk County of seven counts of methamphetamine possession as well as battery of a firefighter or EMT, resisting an officer with violence, assault, disorderly intoxication, indecent exposure, and possession of cocaine.
