Norway Pushes Back Against European Commission’s Hypocrisy in Curbing Arctic Oil and Gas Just as Multiple EU Countries Are Actively Seeking It

Norwegians are calling out Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen on her nonsense.

It is an interesting feature of contemporary European politics that some pockets of resistance to suicidal Brussels policies have started to emerge.

Political fights that were only waged by the ‘far-right’ are now espoused by establishment forces across the political spectrum.

One example would be leftist Denmark and establishment right-wing Italy uniting against immigration policy.

Another is the push by the Norwegians against the energy policies, and Brussels hypocrisy in its attack on Arctic oil.

JUST IN: Norway declares it will continue drilling for oil and gas in the Arctic regardless of the EU’s support for a moratorium.

The immediate objection must be made that Norway is NOT part of the EU – but it’s under the same legislative and regulatory pressures.

To begin with, a quick look at the top 10 buyers of Norwegian oil and gas: United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, France, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Italy.

9 EU countries and the United Kingdom.

We can see how Norwegian oil and gas play an important role in the energy security of the very European Union that fustigates its industry.

Not only that, but as a Norwegian minister noted today, several EU countries are actively searching for oil in the Arctic.

Norway is officially breaking with Brussels’ energy policies.

Norwegian Energy Minister Terje Aasland has declared that Oslo will pursue Barents Sea oil & gas exploration—regardless of any EU Arctic moratoriums.

Politico reported:

“The EU executive has pushed for a global ban on new drilling in the Arctic region since 2021 despite criticism from Arctic exporters — particularly Norway, which has become the EU’s largest supplier of gas and its second-biggest supplier of oil as the bloc has cut down its trade with Russia.”

Energy minister, Terje Aasland, called out the open contradiction:

“While the EU talks about banning drilling, ‘we see different actions from the different countries that we want to talk with’, he said. He pointed to Polish state energy company Orlen’s recent investment in offshore oil fields in the sea around Norway, as well as Germany state energy company Uniper’s 15-year agreement with Norwegian oil major Equinor to buy gas.

‘When we’re talking to Germany, they want that gas. And when you’re talking to Poland, they want that gas’, Aasland added at a panel earlier in the day.”
