On Friday’s broadcast of CNN’s “OutFront,” Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) accused Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of abusing children.
Host Erin Burnett said, “I just wanted to share with you some new video that we’ve just gotten in of a five-year-old boy named Liam. He’s crying, holding the hand of his dad, who’s handcuffed. They both were detained by ICE at a vehicle stop in Texas. Now, the boy and his father are both undocumented. They were on their way to a soccer game. Liam is scheduled to start kindergarten in Texas this week. I don’t know if you know anything about this. Obviously, at this moment, all I can really share for you is the bare bones of that story in the video itself. But I wanted to give you a chance to react given your focus on ICE.”
Dean said, “Another little boy named Liam caught up in the despicable web of this inhumane ICE set of circumstances. And it is under the president.”
She continued, “I wanted this president to be successful. We want immigration reform that makes any sense. But, of course, we’ve never seen it. Another little boy named Liam, and if the reporting is correct, I believe he and his father have been taken to Dilley, Texas, where I have been, and I have seen the abuses there, the abuses of children, the abuses of parents, families, the abuses of health care, the the ignoring.”
She added, “It is a place of terrible abuse. Another little Liam. This is not what America stands for.”
