Ambassador Jamieson Greer Weighs in on US Dealing with China on Rare Earths, Trade Deficits and Fentanyl (VIDEO)

Ambassador Jameison Greer appeared on “Fox News Sunday” to discuss President Trump and the US’s dealings with China regarding rare earths, trade deficits, and fentanyl.

The President is currently on a trip to Asia, which started in Malaysia.

“President Trump now on the ground in Malaysia. The first leg of a high-stakes tour,” Bream said.

“This trip is expected to culminate in a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping,” Bream continued.

“Ambassador, welcome to Fox News Sunday,” Bream said.

“News trickling out this morning very early says that you and your Chinese counterparts have at least reached the contours of a deal. It goes to the leaders now. How close are you to getting this across the finish line?” Bream asked.

“Well, it’s really going to depend on President Trump and President Xi,” Greer said.

“We’ve had very constructive conversations yesterday and this morning to find a path forward where we can have you know, more access to rare earths from China. We can try to balance out our trade deficit with sales from the United States,” Greer continued.

“Part of what China would do with respect to the rare earths is they would require exporters anywhere in the world starting in December to seek approval from Beijing,” Bream commented.

“News coming out this morning says that there is some deferral or an understanding for hope of deferring that particular problem,” Bream commented.

“I will say that our goal is to make sure that those controls that are very expansive do not go into effect. This is something that would affect not only the United States, it would also affect the rest of the world,” Greer said.

President Trump has prioritized the safety of American citizens with putting an emphasis on stopping fentanyl from entering the US.

“So, President Trump has said the first thing he wants to talk about with President Xi is the issue of fentanyl. China says that it has been working with the US and international players on that issue,” Bream commented.

“Fentanyl is a scourge in our country. It’s been well documented. It kills hundreds of thousands of Americans, and a lot of the inputs come from China,” Greer continued.

“If China can control rare earths and other things, it can certainly control fentanyl and imports for fentanyl,” Greer explained.
