HAPPENING NOW: Senate Votes on Competing Proposals as Schumer Shutdown Drags On

**Schumer Shutdown day 3**

The US Senate on Friday voted for the fourth time on competing proposals to fund the government amid the Schumer Shutdown.

On October 1 at 12:01 am, the government partially shut down because two measures failed in the Senate. The measures to reopen the government failed again on Wednesday morning.

The House passed a clean, short-term stopgap funding bill to keep the government open. Schumer rejected it.

House Speaker Mike Johnson laid it out clearly:

  • Democrats demanded restoring healthcare access for illegal aliens.
  • They wanted $500 million funneled back to leftist PBS propaganda.
  • They tried to slash funding for rural hospitals that serve working-class Americans.
  • They demanded $1.5 trillion in NEW spending tied to just a seven-week funding measure.

Instead of working with Republicans to responsibly extend funding until November, Schumer chose a shutdown.

The Senate voted on Friday after taking a couple of days off so Jewish members of Congress could observe Yom Kippur.

The proposals are expected to fail.

Update: The Senate rejected the Democrats’ bill – which includes healthcare benefits for illegal aliens – in a 46-52 vote.
