The cash-strapped Democratic National Committee has put its own Washington, D.C., headquarters up as collateral to secure a massive $15 million loan as the party struggles financially ahead of the critical 2026 midterm elections.
According to newly reported D.C. deed records detailed by NOTUS, the DNC put its physical headquarters in Southeast Washington, partially owned by the committee, up as security for the loan it took out last year.
The DNC secured the $15 million line of credit in October 2025 to help finance off-year elections and prepare for the 2026 midterms. It was reportedly the largest off-year loan in the committee’s history.
Federal Election Commission records confirm that the DNC received $15 million in loans during the current election cycle. The committee’s credit agreement describes a secured revolving credit facility with Amalgamated Bank.
But the DNC did not explicitly identify its headquarters as collateral in its monthly or loan-related filings with the FEC, according to NOTUS.
The financial numbers are brutal.
As of June 30, the DNC reported approximately $16.3 million in cash on hand and more than $18.5 million in debts and loans, according to the Federal Election Commission.
The Republican National Committee, meanwhile, reportedly has approximately $128 million in cash and no outstanding debt.
One anonymous DNC member accused Chairman Ken Martin of “gaslighting” committee members about the organization’s finances and questioned whether he could effectively lead the party through the coming election cycle.
The DNC attempted to downplay the stunning collateral arrangement.
“This is not new,” a DNC official told NOTUS, noting that the building had also been used as collateral in 2019, 2018, 2014, and other election cycles.
The DNC’s defense is essentially that putting its headquarters on the line has become a regular feature of the party’s financial management.
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, the DNC’s financial crisis has become so severe that party officials reportedly asked vendors to delay submitting bills until after the midterm elections.
The bookkeeping maneuver would allow the committee to postpone recognizing some expenses until after voters go to the polls.
The Gateway Pundit also reported that Martin allegedly threw his phone at a junior aide’s desk during an angry outburst earlier this month, prompting a formal complaint to the DNC’s human resources department.
Martin has reportedly become increasingly isolated and concerned about internal leaks as frustrated Democrats question his leadership, fundraising performance, and handling of the party’s failed 2024 election autopsy.
The Gateway Pundit reported in May that Republicans were already outraising Democrats and holding a commanding cash advantage as liberal donors continued questioning the direction of the party following its disastrous 2024 election performance.
President Trump’s political operation and Republican committees are sitting on enormous cash reserves while the DNC is buried in debt and struggling to convince major donors to open their checkbooks.
