Turnout in Wisconsin’s hotly contested gubernatorial primary is lower than many Democrats were hoping.
Democratic strategists note turnout this afternoon in Madison was down, which could be a drag on progressive state Rep. Francesca Hong. They’re also watching to see how much Hong and state Sen. Kelda Roys split the Dane County vote. That could help Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley.
Still, turnout in Milwaukee and across the state has been lower as well, according to Democratic party officials. Voters in the city of Milwaukee had returned 26,739 absentee ballots by shortly after 2 p.m., which is down from similar years.
