Tim Curry, star of cult favorite The Rocky Horror Picture Show, played the evil clown in IT, and star of Home Alone 2 has passed away at the age of 80.
Curry passed away at his Los Angeles home over night on Monday evening, according to TMZ.
The actor is perhaps best known for portraying Dr Frank-N-Furter in the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the creepy, evil clown in the Stephen King horror flick IT.
But he was also featured in a classic performance as the harried and frustrated hotel manager in Home Alone 2. And had standout roles in films including Congo, Muppet Treasure Island, Annie, and Clue, among others.
Film work was far from his only career highlights. Curry provided the voices for a very long list of video games, as well as many animated movies and TV series, including Gargoyles, Paddington Bear, Peter Pan and the Pirates, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Sonic the Hedgehog, among dozens of others.
Curry was also a stage actor and appeared in the lead role of King Arthur for the Monty Python musical Spamalot between 2004 and 2007.
Some of his other stage appearances included What About Dick?, My Favorite Year, and Travesties.
He was awarded The Actors Fund Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015 at the Tony Awards.
But in July of 2012, Curry suffered a massive stroke from blood clots in his brain that left him unable to walk and bound to a wheelchair. The stroke caused hm to mostly withdraw from public life, though he did make appearances in several projects.
In 2025, at a screening marking the 50th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Curry told the audience that his health was not likely to improve.
“I still can’t walk, which is why I’m in this silly chair, and that’s very limiting,” he told the audience. “So, I won’t be singing and I won’t be dancing very soon. I still have real problems with my left leg.”
Timothy James Curry was born in Cheshire, England, in 1946 to his mother, Patricia, a school secretary, and father James, a Royal Navy chaplain. He had one sibling, a sister, Judith, who passed away in 2001.
