A snack mix sold throughout New England may have a bunch of crunchy goodies in it, but, according to its label, almonds shouldn’t be one of them. Because some of them do, the New Hampshire company that makes them is recalling the product.
New England Village Foods, of Milford, New Hampshire, is recalling its “19th Hole Snack Mix,” sold at “small independent grocery markets and convenience stores throughout New England, New York, and Pennsylvania,” according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration recall notice.
The mix — which also contains honey roasted chips and peanuts, hot Cajun corn sticks and rice crackers, according to the label — comes in 5-ounce and 10-ounce clear cups and tubs with re-closable lids.
The label does not indicate the mix might contain almonds, which some do, posing a serious risk to someone with almond allergies, the FDA reported.
As of April 24, no one had reported health issues due to the label issue but consumers are urged to return the snack mix to wherever they bought it for a full refund, the FDA said.
After a customer reported almonds in the mix, “an investigation by the company revealed that a temporary breakdown in packaging procedures was responsible for the error. Production of the affected product has been suspended as a precaution,” according to the recall.
