This was a huge overreach and another cruel abuse of power by this administration. ICE has no place in our courtrooms. If Judge Dugan acted as described, she did the right thing, she acted out of compassion, and for that she is being outrageously punished. And that is unjust.

Joanne Shansky, St. Francis

Dugan took oath to uphold Constitution that Trump ignores

The American judicial system has been co-opted by a group of fascists and Nazi sympathizers. Sitting back and following the rules they are flagrantly ignoring would be much worse in my opinion. There are three separate but equal branches of government and part of the job is to keep the other two in line with the Constitution. The current convicted felon in charge is ignoring the Constitution. Dugan took an oath as a lawyer and judge to uphold the Constitution.

Rochelle Sandrin, Fredonia

Judge’s arrest pure political theater without regard for law

Political theater without regards to the law. Kash Patel, the most unqualified director of the FBI ever, couldn’t contain his glee in rushing to announce the arrest on X. This will rally all of the lemmings that don’t believe in the right to due process for illegal immigrants, so that they can apply additional pressure on the judicial system to ignore the Constitution and export/jail immigrants without regard to their innocence or legal status.

Opinion: We’re Republican and Christian. Trump is wrong to order these refugees to leave.

Specious prosecution of Dugan is a mockery of justice

Judge Dugan did nothing wrong. She simply directed an undocumented immigrant to use a side corridor of her courtroom to exit the courtroom and then enter the main, public hall of the courthouse where a federal agent was waiting to arrest him. That agent got on the same elevator as the immigrant and followed him outside the building, where he was ultimately arrested.

Dugan’s entirely appropriate conduct does not even approach satisfying the elements of the two felonies with which she has been unjustly charged. This specious prosecution is a mockery of justice intended to intimidate the judiciary. It is part of Trump’s effort to replace democracy with autocracy and plutocracy.
