A 6.6-7.4 magnitude quake has hit the country’s Pacific coast, with the local authorities reporting injuries and widespread damage
A powerful earthquake hit Colombia on Monday, killing more than 110 people, according to President Abelardo de la Espriella. Tremors were felt in several major cities across the country, as well as neighboring Ecuador and Panama.
Speaking at a press conference in Bogota on Moinday afternoon, de la Espriella said that 111 people had been killed and 87 injured. De la Espriella, who took office on Friday, declared a national emergency, and pledged to travel to the affected city of Periera “to support those affected and verify the government’s response.”
