An illegal alien is accused of pouring hot wax on herself and one of her daughters before setting a fire inside the kitchen of her Miami, Florida, home, law enforcement officials say.
This week, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrested illegal alien Meliza Campos-Sanchez of Cuba and charged her with two counts of neglect of a child, cruelty toward a child involving child abuse, and arson.
“This Cuban illegal alien is charged with child abuse and arson after she poured hot wax onto one of her own children and then lit a fire in her home,” a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson said in a statement.
According to police, on August 16, officers arrived at Campos-Sanchez’s home to find that she had intentionally started a fire inside her kitchen and was throwing things into it. Campos-Sanchez was taken to a nearby hospital and given a mental health evaluation before being booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Soon after, investigators found two Instagram videos posted by Campos-Sanchez where she shows herself pouring hot wax on herself, then pouring the wax on one of her daughters’ hands. The other video showed her throwing items into the fire she allegedly set.
Campos-Sanchez illegally entered the United States through Florida in May 2022 at the peak of the Biden administration’s mass migration.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has now lodged a detainer against Campos-Sanchez, requesting custody of her if Miami officials plan to release her from jail.
“If it weren’t for the Biden administration’s reckless open-border policies, criminals like this woman would have never been able to enter our country,” the DHS spokesperson said. “ICE has lodged a detainer asking Miami officials to not release this criminal from jail. We will work with our partners in Florida to make sure she is removed from our country after she faces justice.”
