Saturday on MS NOW’s “Politics Nation,” Michigan Democratic Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed said President Donald Trump is America’s version of the Roman Emperor Nero.
Host Al Sharpton said, “If you’re elected, you’ll be spending a lot of time in Washington, D.C.. So I have to start by asking you about the scene there today. As we are at war, as Americans are struggling to pay for necessities as the debt has topped $40 trillion. And while we’re hitting our ally, Canada, just today with a 50% tariff, the president is playing host to an IndyCar race on the National Mall. What do you make of the display?”
El-Sayed said, “Rev, I don’t have to tell you this, but this is not a serious person. This is America’s version of Nero in 2026. He’s never been serious about actually solving our problems. He’s always just made them worse.”
He added, “And then you think about the fact that this is a guy who’s more interested in traveling around the world. He’s more interested in putting drapes in his new ballroom, and now he’s interested in hosting a car race. This is not what we need and deserve from an American president in a moment of turmoil like this one. We need somebody who’s going to be serious about actually solving problems.”
