CHEBOYGAN — County commissioners Tuesday accepted the resignation of Ron Williams as District 4 commissioner and will now seek applicants for the term ending Nov. 3, 2026.

Residents of Inverness and Mullett townships interested in the position can apply through the county’s website. The deadline to submit an application is April 3. County board chairman John Wallace said commissioners will interview potential candidates at the April 8 board meeting.

Williams, who operates Williams Office Equipment, resigned from the board on March 12 after serving since 2020. He cited a more stressful environment for leaving.

Cheboygan County Commissioners are seeking applications from residents in Inverness and Mullett townships interested in representing District 4 on the county board following the resignation of Ron Williams.

“We have some great people at Cheboygan County, but it was quickly becoming an excessively stressful environment for me. I did not like the person I was being asked to become. It was beginning to affect my health, my work and most importantly my family life. I’m sorry to anyone I may have disappointed and I wish my successor the best of luck,” he said in a statement.

This is the second vacancy the board has had to fill this year.

At the county board meeting on March 11, commissioners approved the appointment of former county sheriff Dale Clarmont to fill the open District 5 seat that was vacated when Kim Pappas resigned due to her increased job responsibilities.
