Authorities say a bystander recovered a boater’s body from the Estero River this weekend after the occupant fell off a vessel.

On Saturday, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, along with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County EMS and fire rescue, responded to a single-vessel incident in the Estero River on April 19.

According to the FWC, preliminary information indicates that a vessel with two occupants on board was traveling on the Estero River when one of them fell off the boat.

Authorities said a bystander found the individual unresponsive in the water and recovered the boater.

The bystander brought the boater to shore, where Lee County EMS took over and took the victim to the hospital.

According to the FWC, the boater died at the hospital. The boater’s gender, age and hometown remained unknown by publication.
