Teachers in New Jersey are no longer required to pass a basic reading, writing, and mathematics test to be eligible for jobs in public schools, under a new law that went into effect at the beginning of 2025.  Gov. Phil Murphy (D) signed the law, Act 1669, in June, which was designed to address teacher shortages in the state, Fox News reported. Firefighters are battling massive wildfires in Southern California that had burned through thousands of acres by Wednesday and led to mandatory evacuation orders for tens of thousands of residents.
