Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) said “No” Thursday when asked if he would overrule Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough, who rejected key Medicaid provisions in the so-called “Big, Beautiful Bill.” When reporters asked him about the matter, Thune said, “No. That would not be a good outcome for getting a bill done,” according to the Hill. The outlet said MacDonough “rejected a plan that would cap states’ ability to collect more federal Medicaid funding via healthcare care provider taxes. The move would have collected hundreds of billions in savings, which Republicans were relying on.” Several Republicans wanted the Senate to “sideline”…
Senate Republicans have included compromises on key Medicaid and tax issuesin updated text for their sweeping domestic policy bill. In an effort to placate GOP moderates on the fence on the legislation, Senate Republicans are planning to provide a $25 billion stabilization fund for rural hospitals over five years. It’s a significant bump up from the $15 billion offer Senate Republican leadership had made to a group of Medicaid moderates, who have balked at the steep cuts to the health program contained in the marque legislation. Over 100 anti-Israel activists stormed a Belgian weapons facility to “stop arming Israel” — apparently unaware that the $1.1 million in equipment they destroyed was actually bound for Ukraine. On Monday, members of the extremist “Stop Arming Israel” movement raided the OIP Land Systems hangar in Tournai, Belgium, vandalizing armored vehicles with hammers, smashing windows, and covering equipment with graffiti. The target of their protest turned out to be a crucial supplier for Ukraine’s war effort against Russia, not a pipeline to the Israeli military. “We don’t sell anything to Israel,” said company president Freddy Versluys. “The vandals entered the…

Republican leaders are expecting to finish up their domestic-policy megabill the same way they’ve advanced it this far: by tweaking their plans for President Donald Trump’s legislative agenda and daring holdouts to vote against it. It might work, and GOP leaders are projecting confidence that the bill will land on Trump’s desk in time to meet their arbitrary July 4 target. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Friday he expects his chamber to start voting as soon as Saturday. But there are reasons the deadline could slip, and several of them were on display this week as Republicans dug in…
