The SBA 7(a) loan guarantee limit remains $5 million, but small businesses can borrow another $5 million through a second program.GettyThe first year and a half of the second Trump Administration has been a mixed bag for small business owners. Tax cuts and an assault on federal regulation have pleased many, even as tariffs, immigration restrictions and now spiking fuel prices and rising interest rates have kept the small business optimism index below historic averages. This week they had a clear win, as the Small Business Administration announced a new rule that will roughly double the combined guaranteed loan limit for…
A team of Finnish expert divers may have unraveled the mystery as to how five Italian divers lost their lives inside a cave complex in the Maldives. The company that recovered the bodies of the group on Thursday said its divers found them in a corridor with a dead end where they were believed to have been trapped, CBS News reported Thursday. DAN Europe CEO Laura Marroni said, “There was no way out from there,” the outlet noted. The expert divers located four of the bodies earlier this week while the body of a diving instructor was previously found outside…
JPMorgan Chase’s leader this week issued a warning to New York City’s democratic socialist mayor, Zohran Mamdani, over his leftist policies. During a Thursday interview with Bloomberg TV, CEO Jamie Dimon spoke about how mayors can make statements, but their city’s situation continues going downhill, the New York Post reported Thursday. “I don’t care what he says. What does he do? I will judge that … because you can talk about morality and ideology all you want, but if things don’t get better you didn’t do a good job,” Dimon stated. “And my view, and I’m talking about him now,…
Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) and former football coach Derek Dooley are set to compete in the Georgia Senate Republican primary runoff on June 16 after no candidate received more than 50 percent of votes during Tuesday’s primary election. Collins, who represents Georgia’s 10th congressional district and owns a trucking company, was the first winner of the night, with AP and NBC News calling first place for him just a few hours after polls closed with 41.6 percent of the votes. Before midnight, the outlets called second place for Dooley over Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA). With most of the votes tallied by…
House Budget Chair Jodey Arrington said Thursday he wants the House to move a budget blueprint for a narrow, party-line policy package in June as House GOP leaders weigh whether they can advance the long-shot legislation by the end of July. “We can do a resolution and put flexibilities in the budget resolution,” the Texas Republican said, noting Republicans can add spending caps and other targets in the blueprint required to kickstart the filibuster-skirting budget reconciliation process. Speaker Mike Johnson hosted a meeting Thursday morning with Arrington, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, several GOP caucus heads and some key rank and…

President Donald Trump told reporters that he would speak to Taiwanese President William Lai Ching-te on Wednesday, downplaying the significance of such a conversation by adding, “I speak to everybody.” Trump’s comment follows a visit to communist China just a week ago in which he claimed to have a positive personal relationship with genocidal dictator Xi Jinping. While the Chinese government attempted to describe Taiwan as an issue of significance in their conversations, the White House’s descriptions of the visit suggest that topics such as economic cooperation, the ongoing war with Iran, and Chinese students in American universities took priority…
Michigan Senate Republican leader Aric Nesbitt asked the Justice Department on Monday to investigate Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) over her potential role in a $20 million state fraud scheme. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced 16 felony charges against Fay Beydoun earlier in May. He is accused of misusing $20 million in grant funding that was meant to start a business accelerator. Nesbitt, who is running for governor, said Beydoun was a political donor and close ally of Whitmer who also allegedly has a close relationship with Nessel. Nesbitt said, “Michigan deserves a governor who works for everyone in this…
Rep. Andrew Clyde said in an interview Thursday he supports the DOJ’s new, $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund — and isn’t ruling out seeking money from the account for himself. The Georgia Republican said the goal of the fund is to “make whole” anyone who has been unfairly targeted by the government, including people who rioted at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Pressed on whether he would personally pursue compensation, he reiterated that the fund is for “anyone” who has been the victim of government weaponization. Clyde has, in the past, argued he’s been targeted by the IRS, and was…
