Accident or sabotage?
Across Europe, a number of accidents have occurred, with authorities probing whether they are the result of planned sabotage.
On Friday, 9-11, in the French region of Normandy, a train derailment injured 44 people, and the French police are investigating whether sabotage caused it, after a piece of rail was found on the track.
Associated Press reported:
“The regional train was carrying 186 passengers from Rouen to Caen when it derailed Friday evening at Cléon, in the Seine-Maritime department of northwestern France.
An 18-year-old woman was among the injured and was evacuated by helicopter to Rouen University Hospital, police said.
A spokeswoman for the French national police communications service, known as SICOP, said that the piece of rail found on the track was ‘probably’ linked to the derailment. She spoke on condition of anonymity because she wasn’t authorized to be publicly named in line with police policy.”

The investigators are probing whether the circumstances were accidental or involved sabotage. The prosecutor’s office is cautious about drawing conclusions.
France24 reported:
“A fragment of rail was found on the track, with the possibility of a malicious act being treated as the main line of inquiry as a result, the source said.
Carrying 186 passengers, the train was running between the Normandy cities of Rouen and Caen when it derailed around 7:45pm (12:45pm ET) Friday close to Renault’s factory in the town of Cleon.
Authorities activated a mass-casualty response plan, with 130 firefighters, five medical teams and 80 vehicles drafted in.”
