Kyiv and its surrounding region endured another night of relentless drone attacks on September 5th, followed by continued daytime strikes across the country, as Russia targeted warehouses, residential buildings, and an airport ahead of the arrival of U.S. special envoys in Kyiv.

Russian forces launched another wave of jet-powered Geran/Shahed-type drones on Kyiv and the surrounding region overnight, targeting warehouse buildings in the Bucha district with no injuries reported. In Boryspil, a drone strike set fire to the roof of a nine-story residential building, injuring two women who were hospitalized, while fifteen residents were evacuated. A drone strike also sparked a fire in Obukhiv district, with no injuries reported.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian drones struck the Kyiv and Boryspil airports overnight, calling the strikes a demonstrative response to the expected arrival of the American delegation. In the evening, Russian drones struck the village of Lisne in Bucha district, setting two private houses ablaze and damaging five residential buildings and three cars. Two people were killed, and one person was injured.

In Khmelnytskyi region, a Russian drone struck a residential building, with the injury toll rising over the course of the day to seven people, including a minor, four of whom were hospitalized.

In Sumy Oblast, Shahed-type drones struck the community, damaging non-residential buildings including a shopping mall, according to President Zelenskyy. No casualties were reported. In Zhytomyr Oblast, a Russian drone struck a local enterprise, sparking a fire with no reported casualties.

On the Eastern Front, Russian forces launched repeated shelling on 25 settlements across the Kharkiv region, striking with KAB aerial bombs and various drone types and damaging warehouses, private houses, and residential and non-residential buildings in Kharkiv city and several surrounding districts, with no casualties reported during daytime shelling. In the evening, ajet-powered drone struck the private sector in central Chuhuiv district, destroying a residential building, an outbuilding, and a garage. Three people were killed, including an 11-year-old boy, and a woman was injured.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile strike on an industrial enterprise in Kamianske, killing four people and injuring five, according to regional military administration head Oleh Ganzha. Additional strikes on Dnipro and Pidhorodne community damaged a service station, a supermarket, and residential buildings, injuring five people, with one additional death reported. In Nikopol, residential buildings and a shop were damaged, injuring one person. Fires also broke out in Pavlohrad, Synelnykove, and other districts. Across the oblast, regional officials confirmed four people killed and six injured.

In Poltava Oblast, a Russian drone struck a warehouse belonging to a private enterprise, with no casualties reported.

On the Southern Front, Russian forces launched massive drone attacks on Zaporizhzhia city, causing heavy damage to private houses and residential and non-residential buildings across five districts. The injury toll rose to six people over the course of the day.

In Kherson, Russian forces launched drone strikes across the city and the village of Molodizhne, injuring four people, while a separate drone strike in the Korabelnyi district injured two elderly men. In Mykolaiv Oblast, Shahed-type drones struck a shopping center, injuring two people, including a 17-year-old girl. In Odesa, Russian forces struck a warehouse building that had previously been targeted, sparking a fire with no reported casualties.

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, Russian personnel losses reached approximately 1,260 over the past 24 hours. Ukraine did not disclose its military losses for the period.

On the diplomatic front, Kyiv is preparing for the arrival of U.S. Special Envoys following their visit to Moscow to discuss ending the war. President Zelenskyy said Ukraine was prepared to refrain from strikes on Moscow effective immediately through the end of September 7th, provided Russia refrained from striking Kyiv during the same period. He added that Kyiv was preparing a response to Russia’s attacks beginning next week.

Russia’s overnight barrage marks the latest in what has become a near-nightly pattern of strikes on Ukrainian cities. Gateway Pundit previously reported on a sixth straight night of Russian drone and missile strikes on Kyiv and southern and eastern Ukraine, as well as an overnight barrage that struck an American-owned Coca-Cola plant in Odesa. On the ground, the pace and intensity of the attacks have made the war’s rhythm difficult to predict, as documented in a recent field dispatch from central Kyiv during a Banderol missile attack.
