Darline Graham and Ralph Norman advance to a runoff for South Carolina Senate

Sen. Darline Graham and Rep. Ralph Norman on Tuesday advanced to a runoff in the snap Republican primary to replace the late Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Graham, who touts President Donald Trump’s endorsement in the race, will be up against a longtime staple in Palmetto State politics and a stalwart Freedom Caucus conservative in Norman.

Both candidates now face the immediate challenge to consolidate support from the losing candidates’ coalitions — including Rep. Russell Fry’s and former Gov. Mark Sanford’s — to win in two weeks.

Whether Graham succeeds will reveal the power of Trump’s endorsement and whether the president can propel a relatively unknown political figure in South Carolina politics into Congress for a full term.
