Sniper reportedly shoots detainees at US immigration facility – media

The attack in Dallas has led to fatalities and multiple injuries, according to officials

A shooting at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas on Wednesday has left at least one person dead and several others injured from possible sniper fire, the Dallas Police Department has announced. The suspected shooter also died at the scene, according to police.

US Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin has told Fox News there were “three fatalities, potentially detainees,” in the shooting.

One of the victims and the suspected shooter died at the scene while two others were sent to hospital with gunshot wounds, the police statement added. ICE agents were also injured in the attack, according to reports.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the suspect was apparently killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“While we don’t know the motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop,” Noem said on X.

The attack reportedly occurred as ICE officers were transferring detainees into the facility.

The I-35E highway, next to which the site is located, was closed in both directions, according to the media. The FBI is responding to the incident.

ICE has been the target of significant backlash in the US, particularly from the left, over its enforcement of the government policy of mass deportation of individuals believed to be illegal immigrants.

Critics say President Donald Trump’s administration is denying targeted people due process and otherwise violating human rights.

The political climate in the US has become increasingly charged. Earlier this month, conservative speaker Charlie Kirk was murdered by a sniper in what was broadly perceived as a significant turning point. Trump has accused the “radical left” of fanning tensions.

Vice President J.D. Vance said, “The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop.” Meanwhile, Attorney General Ken Paxton said he was praying for the victims of “this heinous shooting” and vowed to act against “twisted individuals” targeting law enforcement.
