The Muslim communist Zohran Mamdani will likely cruise to victory in the New York mayoral race, according to the latest polling data.
A poll conducted by Siena and The New York Times found that Mamdani holds a commanding 22 percent lead over former New York governor Andrew Cuomo.
Mamdani is currently projected to win 46 percent of the vote, with Cuomo lagging behind on just 24 percent.
Republican Curtis Silwa is polling at 15 percent, while incumbent Mayor Eric Adams is on just nine percent.
Roughly six in ten likely voters described Mr. Mamdani as inspiring, trustworthy, and concerned for people like themselves.
Despite widespread criticism from both Republicans and Democrats, he also remains the only candidate with majority-positive ratings among the electorate.
However, the pollsters note that Mamdani’s lead is likely to shrink if other candidates pull out of the race.
Their report explained:
The Times/Siena poll underscored the potential impact of shrinking the field. Doing so, it suggested, could meaningfully erode Mr. Mamdani’s lead, but only if both Mr. Adams and Mr. Sliwa — who have vowed to keep running — suspended their campaigns.
In a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, voters who initially supported Mr. Adams and Mr. Sliwa broke heavily toward Mr. Cuomo, a moderate Democrat.
The survey suggested that would lead to an extremely tight race, with 48 percent supporting Mr. Mamdani and 44 percent supporting Mr. Cuomo.
But if Mr. Adams dropped out and Mr. Sliwa stayed in the race, Mr. Mamdani would likely still hold a comfortable lead given Mr. Adams’s relatively low level of support.

While most Democrats try to play down their socialist tendencies, Mamdani is a self-confessed left-wing radical.
Before entering politics as a New York Assemblyman, he waged a longstanding campaign aimed at defunding the New York Police Department, which he claims is designed to “control black, brown and poor New Yorkers.”
He also believes that defunding the police is essential for the cause of “queer liberation” and that law enforcement is complicit in aiding a “violent, right-wing government” in persecuting minorities.
Among his policy proposals are creating government-owned grocery stores and spending $65 million on sex changes for minors.
