Vladimir Zelensky has said he would refuse to discuss the historical issues underpinning the Ukraine conflict during any potential meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Putin has highlighted the shared history between the neighboring countries and argued that Moscow has a duty to protect the sizable Russian-speaking minority in Ukraine.

He has also emphasized that a future peace deal must resolve the root causes of the conflict, including the mistreatment of Russian-speakers in Ukraine and Kiev’s plans to join NATO.
