UNITED STATES – “Scrubs” focuses on the out-of-the-ordinary experiences of medical resident John … More “J.D.” Dorian as he embarks on his healing career at Sacred Heart, a busy teaching hospital crammed full of unpredictable staffers and patients. Another day closer to official confirmation of the Scrubs reboot.

Technically, this Scrubs “2.0,” which began on NBC in October 2001 and concluded on ABC in March 2010 (as Scrubs: Med School in the final season), has not been greenlit to series yet. But Zach Braff, who played John Michael “J.D.” Dorian and began the comedy as an intern, will reprise his role in the Scrubs continuation, which is in development at ABC from 20th Television.

Last December, series creator/executive producer Bill Lawrence signed a deal to create this follow-up. Per the agreement, however, Lawrence will not serve as the showrunner.

So, who is next to sign on? Donald Faison as Christopher Turk? Or Sarah Chalke as Elliot Reid, John C. McGinley as Perry Cox and/or Judy Reyes as Carla Esponosa, among others? Reyes, who exited Scrubs after season eight, is already tied to ABC’s returning High Potential, so her potential participation may be limited. But Braff’s return points to Donald Faison as the next to board the Scrubs reboot. Braff and Faison have appeared together in the recent series of T-Mobile commercials, which only whets our proverbial appetite for their reunion on Scrubs.

The critical acclaim this season, meanwhile, for the similar appear St. Denis Medical on NBC is all the more reason to anticipate this new Scrubs (and the potential accolades that are likely to come with it).

As for which cast member is confirmed next…stay tuned.
