Investigators are seeking a driver who fled without stopping to help after striking and killing a man along Bear Valley Road in Victorville early Saturday.

The collision was first reported just before 1 a.m. on Bear Valley Road, just west of Mesa View Drive, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Responding deputies encountered the victim, who died at the scene, officials said. They determined he had been struck by a vehicle.

“It was learned the suspect vehicle drove west on Bear Valley Road. The front end of the vehicle struck the pedestrian as the pedestrian crossed the roadway,” the agency said in a written statement.

No description of the involved vehicle or driver was available.

The victim’s identity was not released pending positive identification and notification of family.

“The investigation is still ongoing, and investigators are asking for assistance from the public to develop suspect leads,” the statement said.
