L-R: Tawny Cypress as Taissa and Melanie Lynskey as Shauna in Yellowjackets, episode 9, season 3, … More
The anticipated Yellowjackets Season 3 finale is now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime, leaving fans with unanswered questions as the seasons wraps up. Will the story continue with a fourth season and possibly a long-awaited rescue? Here’s the latest on the future of the hit survival series.
Season 3 of Yellowjackets premiered in February 2025 and continued the story of a high school girls’ soccer team whose journey to a national championship turned tragic when their plane crashed in the Canadian wilderness. The series weaves between past and present, showing how the survivors’ lives have evolved nearly 25 years later as they confront their lingering traumas.
The latest chapter picks up after the shocking death of adult Natalie Scatorccio in the Season 2 finale, and Season 3 brought even more bloodshed and drama. “The Yellowjackets continue to fight for survival after a brutal winter in The Wilderness,” the synopsis reads. “In the present day, still reeling from Natalie’s death, the survivors are forced to uncover secrets they thought were buried for good.”
As you watch the finale, which officially dropped on April 11, you might be wondering whether Yellowjackets will return for a fourth season. Here’s everything we know so far, including what Season 4 could be about, according to the creators and cast.

As of April 11, Yellowjackets has not been renewed for a fourth season by Showtime. Co-showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco previously said they originally planned for five seasons. While the show hasn’t been canceled, its future remains uncertain.
“The original plan was about five seasons, and we feel like we’re still on track for that,” Lyle told Entertainment Weekly in March 2023. “So far, we’ve been really on track.”

What Could Yellowjackets Season 4 Be About?

Based on how Episode 3 ends—with Natalie discovering the plane transponder that Misty hid back in Season 1—there’s a possibility that the fourth season could center around the girls’ rescue. In the scene, Natalie hears a voice on the other end of the line, which says, “Yes, I can hear you.”
When asked by Variety whether there are plans for a rescue in Season 4, Lyle teased, “We do have plans to pivot at some point, but I think everyone’s going to have to watch and see when that might happen.”
Speaking about what fans might expect in a potential next installment, Lyle added, “Melissa is in the wind; the gloves are off; Misty is on a mission. I think that there’s a lot of fun to be had moving forward.”
Sophie Nélisse, who plays young Shauna, told The Direct she’s excited for “what’s to come” in the future. While she admitted she has “no hints,” she shared that she’s really hoping for a rescue in Season 4.
“I would like them to be rescued [in season 4]. Or maybe like, partially, half [of season 4] is in the wilderness, and then half is them getting back to real life,” she revealed. “And I would love to see how they cope with that, having the pressure of family and the media and school, and having to be immersed in like, a normal life after having undergone all of those events.”
Meanwhile, a lot unfolds in the present day timeline: Van is killed by Melissa, and a heartbroken Taissa eats her heart as an act of love (just like in Season 2, when the survivors ate Javi Martinez’s heart to honor him). Shauna’s daughter Callie and husband Jeff take off after Callie confesses she accidentally killed Lottie.
Melanie Lynskey, who plays adult Shauna, told Variety that she has no idea what’s ahead or whether Shauna’s life is at risk. “I could be killed off in Episode 1 of Season 4. I literally don’t know,” she said.
By the end of Season 3, Shauna’s world is spiraling out of control—her allies are gone, Jeff blames her for Lottie’s death, and Taissa and Misty are targeting her. So, could she be the next to get killed off in Season 4? Likely not, according to Lyle.
“For them to band together to sort of hurt Shauna — to kill Shauna — I don’t know that, for a lot of them, they really crossed that line emotionally, even though that would make a lot of sense,” Lyle toldVariety. “They’re still thinking like teenage girls. These are their friends and teammates.”
Also, what would the Antler Queen look like in modern-day New Jersey? Lisco told Variety that the creators would love to explore that storyline in Season 4.
“It’s interesting, to me at least, that some of the audience is saying, ‘Wow, Shauna has gone so dark.’ And, as Ashley said, the seeds were definitely sowed when she was doing all sorts of things, like killing a rabbit with a shovel — et cetera, et cetera — in the early stages. I feel like the word we used for it the other day was self-imprisonment,’ he explained. “She was imprisoning herself in this domestic situation, and she was trying to quash all these impulses for many years, and now they have been unleashed.”
