Africa Is MUCH Larger Than You May Realize: Why That Matters explains that perception of size affects the status and power of a country or continent. So, when the world map inflates the size of the US, Canada, and Europe and radically diminishes the size of Africa, that has huge ramifications for politics and economics. The Mercator Map which the world has used for centuries makes the Northern Hemisphere look much larger at the expense the Southern Hemisphere. Correcting that map is key to a more accurate understanding of the world – especially now as Africa rises to resume its historic global importance. There are growing calls to use a more accurate map.

How Big is Africa? As big as the USA, China, India and Europe, together!

IT’S REALLY AS BIG AS CHINA, INDIA, THE UNITED STATES AND MOST OF EUROPE PUT TOGETHER.

Importance of National Stories

Yuval Harari is an historian and tenured professor in the Department of History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is the author of Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow,  21 Lessons for the 21st Century, and Sapiens: A Graphic History: The Birth of Humankind (Vol. 1) and other books.

Harari explains the critical importance of stories. He says human civilization is based on a shared story. We understand our world and ourselves because we share stories about our history, the present, and the future. However, he points out that people have recently lost belief in the stories we were told. He says it is terrifying not to have a story because we don’t know who we are and there is no vision for the future.

Harari explains that there were three main stories in the 20th century: American Democracy, German Fascism, and Soviet Communism. With the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II and the collapse of the Soviet Union in  1991, it looked like American Democracy had won. However, there are titanic shifts now with the rise of Communist China, the BRICS nations, and the Global South – including Africa.

Yuval Noah Harari; Human Are Story Telling Animal

In this video, Yuval Noah Harari is talking about the human are a story telling animal. For thousands of years we have developed the shared story and we believe them. In 19th or 20th century, we have developed the story of capitalism and democracy or communism and billions of people follow them.
The most successful story is capitalism. In the 21st century, we have developed lots of stories and we now believe them.

The Myth of White Supremacy

Harari points out that we know who we are based on the story we tell ourselves about ourselves. That sense of identity is established if our story is confirmed by others. A nation is the story the people tell themselves about their history, their present activities, and their goals for the future. Harari explains why the story of each nation is no longer sufficient and argues in favor of a global story.

The story the West has told itself for 500 years was designed to maintain The Myth of White Supremacy which is used to justify the theft of the Americas, genocide of the peoples here, and the enslavement of Africans. The myth maintains that Europeans are the only people who have created anything of value in the world, they are the only civilized, smart people – and are the only beautiful people. Everyone else is backwards, stupid, primitive, ugly, and has never contributed anything. Therefore, other peoples have no rights – no right to their land or even to their lives or freedom.

That myth is based on the belief  that the ancient Greeks were the founders of Western civilization and democracy, and the West created the Renaissance, Enlightenment, and Industrial Revolution. The story is also based on the idea that America created democracy and the American Dream is the shining light for the rest of humanity. The story ignores among other facts the foundational contributions of the ancient Egyptians, The Golden Age of Islam (750-1258), and the high civilizations of the Americas which were more advanced than those of Europe.

A growing number of Europeans and White American analysts and authors are explaining why The Myth of White Supremacy is false and leaves out the true history of the world which we must understand now to function on the global stage. The West’s story is being challenged on multiple fronts now by peoples the West has felt superior to for 500 years  but to whom it now has to acknowledge its very deep debts.

As these truths emerge, the West is being served large slices of Humble Pie that destroy its pride (arrogance) and sense of self. So, it now must face the reality that its story is no longer confirmed by others and is no longer has an identity it can be proud of because there are now other powerful cultures on the world stage that know the truth of global history.

The West must now begin to revise its story to conform to those truths. Doing so is not going to be easy or comfortable. Looking now at the man in the mirror, Westerners increasingly see someone they no longer recognize, like, or feel proud of. This is shaking all of the West. However, it also is an opportunity to understand and celebrate the many gifts of mankind over the last 2,000 years or more.

The myth of “White Supremacy” has to hide a lot of history to make it seem that Europeans created everything of value in the world — and no other people ever created anything. Yet, that is what Americans and most of the world is taught now by our educational system and media.Athens, the capital of Greece, is named for the Greek goddess Athena — derived from the Egyptian god Aten. Martin Bernal, author of Black Athena: The Afroasiatic Roots of Classical Civilization (The Fabrication of Ancient Greece 1785-1985), explains in the interview below that the Ancient Model of history was accepted in Europe until the 1800s. In that model, the testimony of the ancient Greeks was accepted in which they reported that they had learned everything  from the Black Egyptians. Europeans accepted that the Greeks were first colonized by the Egyptians and later were civilized by them.

However, Bernal said that in the 1800s, the fraudulent Aryan Model was introduced which is in place today. In that model, the Greeks are given credit for everything from philosophy (Socrates, Plato, Aristotle), to medicine (Hippocrates), to history (Herodotus), to math (Pythagorus), etc. In the Aryan Model, the Egyptians are ignored — and/or said not to have been Black.

Why History Is A Sacred Science

Our educational system fails to tell us about the impact of ancient Egypt on America and Europe today. However, Oscar Is Based on Egyptian God Ptah shows that not only is the Oscar (the statue coveted by actors and filmmakers at the Academy Awards) based on the Egyptian God Ptah, but we are basically living in ancient Egypt now in countless fundamental ways — looking on with eyes wide shut.

Because we don’t know our history, we have been robbed of a profound understanding of who we are. That was not always the case. It began in the 1800’s after the Marines under President Jefferson defeated the Moors in the Battle of Tripoli. That left no one on the world stage to tell the truth of world history – until now.

The Hermetica: The Lost Wisdom of The Pharaohs shows it would be hard to overstate the impact of Egyptian culture on Europe. In the inspiring video, British author Peter Gandy reads from the book’s introduction and cites the quote: “A nation without a history is like a man without a memory”.

Oscar Is Based on Egyptian God Ptah explains that the Oscar coveted by actors at the Academy Awards each year is based on the Egyptian God Ptah who is shown holding an Ankh (symbol of life) and Djed (symbol of power). Is The Oscar Statuette Inspired By An Ancient Egyptian God? is the official explanation for the design of the statue, but acknowledges its resemblance to Ptah.

The Importance of Our True History

A growing number of European, American, and African scholars have revealed that the history Americans and Europeans are taught now is far from our real history – especially regarding ancient Egypt. Our  true history is very inspiring – and may provide essential guidance now to navigate the many challenges we face today. As the Bible says, “The truth shall set you free”.

Oscar Is Based on Egyptian God Ptah points out that The Hermetica: The Lost Wisdom of The Pharaohs shows it would be hard to overstate the impact of Egyptian culture on Europe and America. In the inspiring video, British author Peter Gandy reads from the book’s introduction and cites the quote:
“A nation without a history is like a man without a memory”.

Gandy points out: “We live in a culture that has been so bowdlerized by the Christian takeover which has endured for a couple thousand years and has given us a completely mistaken identity of who we are. Our memory is wrong. Your memory is your identity. Without a correct memory, we don’t know who we are or where we’re going. So, for me, history is a sacred science. Also, it is about giving credit where credit is due.”

US Founding Fathers Worshipped Ancient Egypt

The US Founding Fathers worshipped ancient Egypt and knew it was black which is shown in the book The Ruins of Empires by Count Constantine Francis Volney which President Jefferson translated from French.

Egyptomania Comes to America  The Washington Monument in the nation’s capital to honor our first president is based on an Egyptian obelisk. There is a pyramid and the Eye of Horus is on the back of the dollar. Nine of the 56 signers the Declaration of Independence and 13 of the 39 who signed the US Constitutions were Masons. In addition, 14 of the 44 US presidents were Masons – dressing up with ancient Egyptian apron and performing ancient Egyptian rites. TED Talk: The Danger of a Single Story

Although Africa is the homeland of humanity and civilization, most Americans know little about this vast continent because our educational system doesn’t cover African history. The corporate media always presents Africa as poverty-stricken and war-torn with massive migrations. However, as Africa increasingly assumes a greater role on the world stage, Americans will need to understand more about this vast continent of 54 nations.

The danger of a single story, the 2009 TED Talk by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, is one of the most popular TED Talks with over 14 million views. It explains, “Our lives, our cultures, are composed of many overlapping stories. Novelist Chimamanda Adichie tells the story of how she found her authentic cultural voice — and warns that if we hear only a single story about another person or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding.”

In the video Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – PEN Pinter Prize 2018, Adichie spoke about what it means to be a writer as she accepted the prize in London. Adichie has given speeches to the graduating classes of Harvard, Wellesley, and many other Ivy League universities.

In the video Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – “Americanah” – International Authors’ Stage, Adichie shows us that understanding the African perspective gives us greater insight into America.

Imhotep: Father of Western Medicine

The motto on the Egyptian temples was “Know thyself”. Europeans and Americans cannot know who they are without understanding their profound debt to ancient Egypt. Just as all of mankind came from Africa, the roots of all civilizations are in Africa. Did This Nigerian Tribe Start Chinese Civilization? shows that a Chinese scientist was shocked to discover that the first Chinese came from what is now Nigeria!

Imhotep: Father of Western Medicine/Freemasonry explains that most people don’t realize how much of Western culture is rooted in Black culture – specifically that of ancient Egypt. We are told that the Greek Hippocrates (450-380 BC) was the “Father of Western Medicine”. However, Hippocrates studied in ancient Egypt where the legendary polymath Imhotep (2667-2600 BC) was the real father of medicine. See Imhotep: The Real Father of Medicine is African.

The so-called “Hippocratic Oath” is the oath Hippocrates learned in Egypt. As Imhotep the African: Architect of the Cosmos by Robert Bauval and Thomas Brophy shows, it was Imhotep who was the father of Western medicine. Imhotep was a late-27th century BC chancellor to the pharaoh Djoser, architect of the first Step Pyramid, and high priest of the sun god Ra at Heliopolis. Imhotep  was a polymath — poet, judge, engineer, magician, scribe, astronomer, astrologer, and especially a physician. Imhotep was so great that he was deified in his own lifetime! Two thousand years after his death, Imhotep’s status had risen so that he was eventually equated with Thoth, the god of architecture, mathematics and medicine, and patron of scribes.

Amazon says of Imhotep the African: Architect of the Cosmos: “In this ground-breaking book, Egyptologist Robert Bauval and astrophysicist Thomas Brophy uncover the mystery of Imhotep, and ancient Egyptian superstar, pharaonic Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Galileo, and Newton all rolled into one. Based on their research at the Step Pyramid Complex at Saqqara, Bauval and Brophy delve into observational astronomy to ‘decode’ the alignments and other design features of the Step Pyramid Complex, to uncover the true origins and genius of Imhotep.”

Stolen Legacy

Stolen Legacy: The Egyptian Origins of Western Philosophy is by George G. M. James.

“For centuries the world has been misled about the original source of the Arts and Sciences; for centuries Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle have been falsely idolized as models of intellectual greatness; and for centuries the African continent has been called the Dark Continent, because Europe coveted the honor of transmitting to the world, the Arts and Sciences.

It is indeed surprising how, for centuries, the Greeks have been praised by the Western World for intellectual accomplishments which belong without a doubt to the Egyptians or the peoples of North Africa….After nearly five thousand years of prohibition against the Greeks, they were permitted to enter Egypt for the purpose of their education.

Mansa Musa: The World’s Richest Man?

Mansa Musa: The Richest Man Who Ever Lived? shows that Mansa Musa was the ruler of the Empire of Mali in West Africa from 1312-1337 AD. He personally owned about half of the world’s known gold reserves. Some reports say that this 14th-century African emperor was the richest person in history and that the wealth of Mansa Musa of Mali was too vast to be imagined—or equaled.

By 1255, the Mali Empire was the largest Africa had ever seen. Mansa Musa (Emperor Musa I) was born in 1280 at a time when Europe was a land of peasants and warfare. Mansa Musa owned half of the world’s known gold reserves and traded with Venice in Italy and Castille in Spain. He built a cultural powerhouse so great that it rivaled any in the world and was a legendary figure in his time.

Nearly half of all gold sold and bought in Africa, Asia, and Europe in the 14th century came from just three mines in Mali! It was equally rich in salt which was prized everywhere. Our word “salary” comes from the Latin word “sal” because Roman soldiers were reportedly paid in salt. The Mali Empire was recognized around the world as a rich, powerful, and almost magical place.

When Moors Rescued Europe From The Dark Ages shows that Europe descended into the Dark Ages after the fall of the Roman Empire in 500 AD. When Mansa Musa came to power, Europe was one of the worst places to live because of rampant famine and plagues like The Black Death which decimated the entire continent. During that period, the Mali Empire flourished thanks to ample resources like gold and salt.

Musa I of Mali: The Real Life King MidasThe people in the Mali Empire were well fed and travel was easy. The video contrasts that with what was happening in Europe at the time. The video explains that in the 13th century, Mali was the sole power in West Africa and was the place to be!  Mansa Musa controlled what was likely the wealthiest empire on Earth in the 14th century. It was during Musa’s two-year pilgrimage to Mecca that the world became aware of the astonishing wealth of Mali.

Musa I raised an army of 100,000 men and 10,000 horses. Over the next decade, he doubled Mali’s size. Under Musa I, Mali stretched about the distance from New York to New Mexico — encompassing half the world’s known gold reserves. Only the Mongolian Empire was larger.

When Musa I, a Muslim, made the nearly 4,000-mile pilgrimage to Mecca as part of his “Hadj” in 1324, he made the trip in a style befitting the richest man who has ever lived. He led a caravan of 60,000 men, 12,000 slaves, tens of thousands of sheep for food, and 100 camels. Everyone was wearing gold brocade and luxury Persian silk. The first 500 slaves each carried three kilos of solid gold. Each of the 100 camels was loaded down with 135 kilos of gold. The voyage to Mecca was 2,700, about the distance from New York City to San Francisco which is 2,900 miles!

The extensive trade networks and zest for learning in Africa at this time has led many to consider it a ‘golden age’. This was particularly true of Mali, which had grown to be the largest empire in West Africa since its establishment in the 13th century by Mansa Musa’s great-uncle, Sundiata Keita. Despite this, however, the Malian Empire was little known outside of the continent until Musa’s famous pilgrimage. News of the emperor’s opulence spread far and wide and may have first planted the idea in Europe that Africa was a place full of resources.

Musa’s pilgrimage to Mecca made him famous all over the world. He shaped the view of Mali as a place of wealth, splendor, and sophistication. The video says Mansa Musa’s life may be turned into a movie.

15 Things You Didn’t Know About Mansa Musa

Mansa Musa conquered over 24 cities in 10 countries. He founded the first university in the region. Musa’s empire included current-day Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Mauritania, and Mali. Musa established the University of Timbuktu, the center of learning which had more books than the legendary Library of Alexandria in ancient Egypt.

Up to the 18th century, Timbuktu was the El Dorado of Africa — a place of legend where the streets were said to be paved with gold. This inspired Europeans to explore the Gold Coast of Africa. His empire was the largest gold producer and one of the biggest trading regions in the world. Mali was selling gold and salt at a time when Europe was poor and starving and was struggling to get those commodities. Musa is said by many to have been the richest person to ever live with a net worth of over $400 billion — four times the worth of Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, one of the richest men today.

Timbuktu was the most important trade center in Africa. The video below explains that Musa made the university he built in Timbuktu one of the greatest centers of learning in the Islamic world where law, astronomy, medicine, religion, and other disciplines were taught. The university had 25,000 students with 800,000 manuscripts — one of the largest libraries in the world. Students from Spain, Egypt, and Morocco studied in the universities of Timbuktu. The Mali empire included parts of today’s Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, and Chad.

Benin’s Famous Art Inspired Picasso

Demands Grow To Return Africa’s Stolen Art shows that the Empire of Benin was one of the longest-lasting empires — from 1180-1897 AD (over 700 years) in what is now southern Nigeria. The Benin Empire ended only when it was invaded by Britain in the Scramble For Africa fueled by the Berlin Conference of 1884-1885. Otherwise, the Benin Empire might still be in existence — almost a thousand years. The Roman Empire lasted just about 500 years from 27 BCE-476 AD.

The walls of Benin (9,900 miles) were the largest earth works in the world — four times longer than the Great Wall of China — and they consumed more material than the Great Pyramids of Egypt. Travelers called it “The Great Benin”. Benin’s beautiful art influenced European cubists like Picasso. Nigeria has been fighting to retrieve its stolen art from Britain, Germany, France, and the US. Beginning in 2021, some of the art began to be returned and Nigeria is building a museum to display its historic treasures.

Scramble for Africa: The Shocking Truth of the Berlin Conference (1884–1885) 5/8/25

In 1884, the fate of an entire continent was decided—without a single African voice in the room. This is the untold story of the Berlin Conference, where European empires gathered to carve Africa like a cake, redrawing borders, exploiting resources, and setting in motion centuries of suffering, resistance, and survival. This video exposes how Africa was stolen, how colonialism was formalized, and how Africa fought back. If you care about truth, justice, and understanding the real history of Africa, this is a story you must hear.

Importance of Understanding Africa Now

Americans are taught to see Africa as poor, primitive, and always in need of help. However, Why Ibrahim Traoré Is Becoming a Legend Across Africa and The Captain Who Shook Empires! Why Ibrahim Traoré Is Africa’s Most Feared And Admired Leader explain that President Traoré of Burkina Faso, the tiny nation in West Africa, is changing the global order through his “resource nationalism”.

President Traoré reminds the West that Africa is rich in resources on which the West depends. These include aluminum clay (rich in the Rare Earth Minerals uranium, cobalt, lithium), bauxite, beryllium, cashews, cattle, chrome, chromite, cocoa (for chocolate) coffee, cotton, diamonds, diatomite, feldspar, fish. graphite, gold, iron ore, ivory, kainite, lead, lentils, limestone, livestock, lumber, maize, manganese, mangoes, marble, oil, palm oil, phosphate (for fertilizers), kyanite, platinum, rice, rubber, salt, sand, silver, tantalum, tea, titanium, tomatoes, uranium, vermiculite, yams, wine, and zinc. Cell phones and EVs rely on resources from Africa.

Since the Berlin Conference of 1884-1885 in which Europe divided and conquered Africa, under colonialism and neo-colonialism, Africa has sold its vast resources cheaply as raw materials. Europe still processes those and sells Africa the expensive finished products. A growing number of African nations are now adopting Traoré’s policy of “Resource Nationalism” which allows Africa to derive much greater profit from its resources by selling finished products rather than raw materials. This is causing a global power shift since the West is dependent on so many of Africa’s resources.

President Traoré’s policies and projects are inspiring other African nations to follow his example. This is causing a seismic shift in global power as we watch the end of neo-colonialism that enriched the West at Africa’s expense.

Muslim Contributions: The Missing 1,600 Years1001 Inventions: The Enduring Legacy of Muslim Civilization points out that Western history is taught as though nothing happened for 1,600 years between the Greeks/Romans and Renaissance. That period is passed over as “The Dark Ages” or “The Middle Ages”. However, it was during those centuries that the Arab world created the foundations for the world we live in today. The Catholic Church burned and banned books to erase the memory of these amazing contributions.  It’s time to remember now.

Muslims introduced paper books to Europe which led to the printing press. How the Renaissance Challenged the Church and Influenced the Reformation discusses the impact of the printing press.

The Clocks of the Andalusian Ibn Khalaf al-Muradi

After the incorporation of the heritage of science and technology inherited from ancient cultures, the scientific tradition of the Islamic world developed genuine and original knowledge in the field of science and technology. Unfortunately, only a meagre mention is made in school curricula and popular history of science books of a great many contributions, discoveries, and inventions from Muslim civilisation.

The figure below shows diagrammatically a rudimentary timeline of the various civilisations that contributed over the centuries after ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, and earlier civilisations. The grey colours are what is taught by our educational establishments, showing a gap of more than a thousand years that used to be referred to as the Dark Ages (or more recently, the medieval ages).

As one can see, the gap in the grey misses the Indian, Persian, Chinese and in a big way, Muslim civilisation, shown in yellow. It is surprising to notice that Al-Andalus (Spain and Portugal when they were Muslim) are not included, albeit European.  If one includes the scientific advances from Al-Andalus, Europe would not have the so-called Dark Ages.  Such a major anomaly must be corrected for a stable future socio-political environment in Europe and America.

Islamo/Judeo/Christian Culture

Would America and Europe continue to wage the endless “War on Terror” if the West acknowledged its deep debt to the Muslim world? Without The Golden Age of Islam from 750-1250 AD, Europe would probably still be in the Dark Ages. Yet, Western history ignores the Muslims’ monumental contributions to Western civilization.

Tariq Ali points out in the video below that Western culture is often referred to as “Judeo/Christian”. However, it should be called an “Islamo/Judeo/Christian” culture because of the many contributions of the Islamic world – almost too numerous to count in a very broad range of fields.

Ali, born in Lahore in 1943, is a writer, journalist, and film-maker. Educated at Oxford University, he owned his own television production company, Bandung, which produced programs for Channel 4 in the UK during the 1980s. Ali is a broadcaster on BBC Radio and contributes articles and journalism to magazines and newspapers including The Guardian and the London Review of Books. He is editorial director of London publishers Verso and is on the board of the New Left Review, for whom he is also an editor. Ali is the author of many fiction and non-fiction books.

Lecture by Tariq Ali: The Birth of Modern Europe and the Expulsion of Muslims and Jews from Spain 9/27/10

The fall of the Kingdom of Granada in 1492 coincided with the expulsion of Jews from Catholic Spain, while the Muslims were expelled in 1526. With these ethnic cleansings and forced conversions in place, a single-identity Europe was created. Virtually everything witnessed in 20th century Europe: the secret police, inquisitions, burning of heretics, Jews, gypsies, had all been experienced in late medieval Spain and Portugal. How does all this refract on contemporary Europe with large Muslim minorities numbering 24 million across the continent?

Tariq Ali, one of the important critical thinkers of our time, lives in London and is an editor of New Left Review and director of its associated publishing house, Verso Books. He is also a novelist and filmmaker, and a long-time political activist.
