Ramadan, the holy month in which close to two billion Muslims worldwide fast from dawn to dusk, comes to an end on the evening of Saturday, March 29.
Thousands of Muslims will gather on March 30 to celebrate Eid al-Fitr at the Dome Arena, 2695 E. Henrietta Road in Henrietta. Eid Salah (congregational prayer) will be held at 7:30 a.m., 8:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Five thousand or more Muslims are expected to pray at the dome arena; morning prayer will be held at other area mosques as well.
Eid al-Fitr falls on a different date every year because it is based on a lunar cycle. The sighting of the crescent moon determines the start of Islamic holidays.
How to wish someone a happy Eid
“Eid” rhymes with “feed.” The most common Eid greeting is “Eid Mubarak,” meaning “blessed festival” in Arabic. You could also wish your Muslim friends and neighbors a “happy eid” or a “blessed eid.” The Rochester area is home to more than 20,000 Muslims.
