A24’s Materialists — starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans— is now in theaters. When will the film be available to stream at home?

Rated R, the romantic comedy from the indie studio opened in theaters on Friday. The film stars Johnson as Lucy, a matchmaker, Pascal as Harry, her prospective perfect match and Evans, who plays Lucy’s ex-boyfriend John. The official logline for Materials reads, “A young, ambitious New York City matchmaker finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex.”

Materialists is already a hit with Rotten Tomatoes critics, who as of Friday have given Materialists an 87% “fresh” rating based on 124 reviews.

The only way you can see Materialists right now is in theaters, so check your local listings for showtimes.

The first stop for Materialists in the home entertainment marketplace will be on digital streaming via premium video on demand. Generally, there is a month window between the time A24’s releases open in theaters to the time they arrive on digital streaming via premium video on demand.

More recently, the Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd’s horror thriller Death of a Unicorn opened in theaters on March 28 and debuted on digital streaming just over a month later, on April 29.

If Materialists follows the same release pattern as the titles above, fans can expect the film to arrive on digital streaming around July 15, since new films tend to arrive on PVOD on Tuesdays.

Which Streaming Service Will Get ‘Materialists’ First?

Since A24 has a deal with Max for the debut of its films on streaming video on demand, Materialists will arrive on SVOD on the Warner Bros. Discovery platform first.

Typically, there is a four-month window between the time an A24 film debuts in theaters and arrives on SVOD on Max. For example, For example, the studio’s hit horror thriller Heretic, starring Hugh Grant, opened in theaters on Nov. 8, 2024, and arrived on SVOD on Max on March 7.
