WEST WARWICK – An elderly man was pronounced dead on Friday after firefighters removed a tree that had fallen on him, according to the West Warwick Fire Department.

The man had been trying to cut the tree down near Clyde Street before it fell on top of him, said the battalion chief, Paul McAllister.

Firefighters went to the scene at 4:14 p.m. and removed the tree, McAllister said, but the man, who had suffered traumatic injuries, was pronounced dead.

The Office of the State Medical Examiners was summoned to the scene. West Warwick police are investigating the death.
