US President Donald Trump has posthumously awarded slain young conservative activist Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
Kirk’s widow, Erika, received the medal on her husband’s behalf at a ceremony in the White House Rose Garden on Tuesday.
Trump described Kirk as a “martyr for truth” and a “fearless warrior for liberty” who inspired many Americans. The president designated October 14 – Kirk’s birthday – as the National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk.
