Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was released from custody on Friday evening after he was arrested for criminal trespass at an ICE detention facility.

The Mayor of Newark was arrested for criminal trespass on Friday after storming the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility with congressional Democrats.

According to News12NJ, Baraka was shouting at agents after he gained entry through the gate.

Interim US Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba said Mayor Baraka was taken into custody after he ignored multiple warnings from DHS agents.

“The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon. He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW,” Alina Habba said.

Baraka ran to MS-13-loving CNN and said he had been charged with federal trespassing. He accused Alina Habba of lying about her claim that he was repeatedly asked to leave the facility.

PER DHS: On May 5, 2025, ICE Newark arrested Adonis ESTEVEZ Bello, a 23-year-old citizen of Dominican Republic. ESTEVEZ has multiple felony convictions for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, drug trafficking, resisting arrest, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. ESTEVEZ has active gang affiliation with street gang “Dominicans don’t play”. he will remain in ICE custody pending a removal hearing.
