WAIT, WHAT? Jimmy Kimmel Disappointed in People on the Right for Not Defending Stephen Colbert

Late night host Jimmy Kimmel is apparently disappointed in people on the right for not rushing to the defense of his fellow late night host Stephen Colbert as the ‘Late Show’ is being canceled by CBS.

Why would anyone on the right defend either of these guys? They spend their entire shows bashing Trump and people on the right every single night. It’s the basis of all the supposed ‘humor’ on both of their shows.

Furthermore, Kimmel tries to frame this as a free speech issue. It has nothing to do with free speech. Colbert’s show was reportedly losing upwards of $40 million a year.

Variety reported:

You’ve shown great camaraderie with the other late-night hosts, especially during the Colbert situation. Talk about those friendships.

We are really close. We became especially close during the strike. We had long, fun conversations about how to handle the situation and decided to do a podcast. Now it’s a text chain — a frequent one. I think we were all shocked and disappointed that this kind of thing is happening in America, and also disappointed that we don’t see more people on the right stepping up and saying, “Hey, this is no good.” Silencing comedians, commentators, whatever you want to call people… I have to say, if Joe Biden had used his muscle to get Sean Hannity kicked off the air, you may be surprised to learn that I would not support that. I would, in fact, support Sean Hannity in that situation, because I thought one of the founding principles of this country was free speech. But people don’t seem to care about protecting it unless you agree with them.

There have been reports that Colbert’s show was losing $40 million a year. What’s your take on that?

I just want to say that the idea that Stephen Colbert‘s show was losing $40 million a year is beyond nonsensical. These alleged insiders who supposedly analyze the budgets of the shows — I don’t know who they are, but I do know they don’t know what they’re talking about.

Just amazing.

Oh, this is on the people they openly despise on a nightly basis. It’s our fault now. https://t.co/V8pe92zzFj

It’s the Republicans’ fault that the liberals who run a liberal network canceled a show hosted by a liberal that loses $40 million a year? https://t.co/KVIYOiGSDs

How dare conservatives not defend Colbert’s right to lose $40 million a year insulting them nightly.
