Police arrested a San Gabriel Valley woman suspected of driving under the influence after she very slowly tried to evade officers, as seen in video footage released Saturday.
Shared in an Instagram post, the Alhambra Police Department said officers were patrolling the area of 4th Street and Mission Road when they responded to a hit-and-run incident.
The officers found the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to confront the driver, but police said she did not cooperate.
“The suspect refused to roll down her window and just sat there, as if she stayed still long enough, she’d become invisible somehow,” read the caption of the department’s social media post.
However, after an unspecified amount of time, the woman decided to make a U-turn and head into her apartment complex driveway, police said.
“With officers literally right behind her, she casually drove into her apartment complex, waited for the gate to open (as if that was going to stop us), and then acted completely shocked when she finally unlocked the door,” continued the department’s description. “She wasn’t fast, she wasn’t furious, but she was arrested.”
Police also discovered that the suspect, identified as Natalie Rankin of Alhambra, was driving under the influence. She was booked at APD jail.
“The real crime? That terrible exit strategy,” concluded the department’s written post.
Details are limited, but officials did not initially report any injuries as a result of this incident.
