SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A chilly end to the weekend, with highs still in the 30’s. But unseasonably warm air is on the way!
Lows overnight into Monday morning only fall into the upper teens, although winds ramp up, so could see wind chills drop into the single digits and 10’s.
Much warmer though for the day Monday with highs into the upper 40’s and low 50’s. Breezy WSW winds though, between 10-20, gusting as high as 35-40 mph at times as high pressure produces strong warm air advection and a very steep temperature gradient through the plains/midwest. And with very low relative humidities of 20-30% and extremely dry vegetation as Siouxland remains in moderate to severe drought, fire danger will be high/very high. Any fires that are sparked will be able to spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended and you should use extra caution with anything that could spark a fire.
Fire danger carries into Tuesday as well as highs once again reach into the upper 40’s and low 50’s and westerly winds gusting as high as 30-35 mph. Plenty of sunshine around to open the workweek as well!
Winds ease into midweek as temperatures take a brief drop back into the low/mid 40’s, so still rather mild by January standards.
50’s make a return once again for Thursday with abundant sunshine continuing.
However, past that, into the weekend, temperatures begin to slowly slide backwards with shower chances and possibly some mix/snow chances at times into the weekend. Highs though, remain mainly above freezing into the low/mid 40’s through Saturday and Sunday with lows in the upper 20’s/low 30’s.
The bigger drop in temperatures arrives into the end of the extended forecast with highs back into the mid/upper 20’s and low/mid 30’s. Some longer range models also suggesting the potential of some more wintry weather past the end of the 9-on-9, so stay tuned!
