The UK Labour Government led by failing PM Keir Starmer is always on the headlines for the most outrageous scandals – and now, a Cabinet minister has set public opinion on fire by her demonstration of carelessness towards raped and abused British women and girls.
Grooming gang victims are on a war footing, attacking a cabinet member Lucy Powell after she had the gall of calling the huge scandal a ‘dog whistle’ issue – while Starmer stubbornly refuses to fire her.
In the deranged minds of people like Powell, a ‘dog whistle’ issue is one that ‘appears neutral or broadly acceptable on the surface, but is designed to send a specific, often controversial, message to a particular audience’ (a.k.a. ‘reactionaries’).
Powell has been forced to apologize after making the idiotic remarks during a debate about a Channel 4 ‘grooming gangs’ documentary.
The Telegraph reported:
“Conservative and Labour figures have criticized Ms. Powell, Leader of the House of Commons, with some calling for her to resign. On Sunday, Wes Streeting, the Health Secretary, defended her, saying ‘we all make mistakes’ and insisting Ms. Powell would not be sacked.”

“Sharing a clip of the Labour frontbencher’s remarks, Sarah Wilson, a Rochdale grooming gang survivor, said: ‘This is what victims and survivors have been up against all these years. This is why we weren’t listened to. They never cared, and they never will. [They] totally dismissed survivors and our experiences of being groomed’.”
On Sunday (4), an unnamed Labour member of the House of Lords said that Sir Keir should sack her.
“They said: ‘Most people I’ve spoken to think she should be sacked. Nobody expects her to survive this, and nor should she. It’s outrageous’.”
Radio commentator Tim Montgomerie asked if Powell had seen a Channel 4 documentary ‘about rape gangs’.
“Ms. Powell, the MP for Manchester Central, interrupted him and replied: ‘Oh, we want to blow that little trumpet now, do we? Yeah, OK, let’s get that dog whistle out’.
Asked by Sky’s Trevor Phillips whether Ms. Powell’s job was safe, Mr. Streeting [Health secretary] replied: ‘Yes. I think she made a genuine mistake, she’s owned up to it, she said sorry and we’ll move on’.”
