The El Paso Times reported that Doña Ana County District Attorney Fernando Macias said in a statement that his office is working closely with law enforcement and will move forward with prosecution as quickly and as effectively as possible.
“In spite of this horrific incident, the Las Cruces community remains strong, vibrant, and united. We will face this tragedy together and confront the challenges ahead with resilience and determination,” Macias said.
In a Saturday news conference, LCPD Chief Jeremy Story said the first calls for gun shots came in at 10:10 p.m., on March 21, 2025, and that gun fire escalated to injure several people caught in crossfire before LCPD and Las Cruces Fire arrived on scene. There was “ill will” between two groups of individuals prior to the event that escalated, according to Story.
There were three male victims who were killed in the shooting and at least 15 additional victims who suffered injuries. Police did not release the name of the injured victims, whose ages range from 16-36. Of the 15 victims, nine are male and six are female.
Police did not provide an update on the current medical conditions of the surviving victims.
