President Donald Trump is calling for Democratic Attorney General nominee Jay Jones to drop out of the race over his resurfaced 2022 text messages that reveal an obsession with violence against Republicans, including fantasizing about their children being murdered.
The scandal erupted when leaked private texts from Jones, a former Virginia House delegate, were published by National Review.
In one shocking exchange, Jones fantasized about putting “two bullets to the head” of then-Republican House Speaker Todd Gilbert in a hypothetical scenario comparing him to dictators like Hitler and Pol Pot.

Jones didn’t stop there; he went even further, expressing a twisted wish that one of Gilbert’s children would die in a school shooting to change Gilbert’s stance on gun control.
“I wish one of his kids would get shot up at school and die. Then maybe he’d change his mind,” Jones wrote, adding grotesque details about imagining the child “lying lifeless in their mother’s arms.”

In a post to Truth Social on Sunday, Trump blasted Jones for his “SICK” and “DEMENTED” comments and endorsed incumbent Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares.
Trump urged the radical leftist lunatic to “drop out of the race, IMMEDIATELY,” and for the people of Virginia to re-elect the “GREAT” Attorney General Miyares.

It has just come out that the Radical Left Lunatic, Jay Jones, who is running against Jason Miyares, the GREAT Attorney General in Virginia, made SICK and DEMENTED jokes, if they were jokes at all, which were not funny, and that he wrote down and sent around to people, concerning the murdering of a Republican Legislator, his wife, and their children. Abigail Spanberger, who is running for Governor, is weak and ineffective, and refuses to acknowledge what this Lunatic has done. Even Democrats are saying it is “RESIGNATION FROM CAMPAIGN” TERRITORY. Democrat Jay Jones should drop out of the Race, IMMEDIATELY, and the People of Virginia must continue to have a GREAT Attorney General in Jason Miyares who, by the way, has my Complete and Total Endorsement — JASON WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!
Vice President JD Vance has also called for Jones to step aside.
“The Democrat candidate for AG in Virginia has been fantasizing about murdering his political opponents in private messages,” Vance wrote in a post on X. “I’m sure the people hyperventilating about sombrero memes will join me in calling for this very deranged person to drop out of the race.”
Jones has issued apologies, calling his words a “grave mistake.” However, he has defiantly refused to withdraw from the race, insisting the texts were private frustrations from a heated legislative session and do not reflect his character or ability to serve.
Spanberger has issued a statement condemning Jones’s remarks but has not called for him to withdraw from the race.
“After learning of these comments earlier today, I spoke frankly with Jay about my disgust with what he said and texted,” Spanberger said in the statement.
Spanberger continued, “I made clear to Jay that he must fully take responsibility for his words. What I have also made clear is that as a candidate–and as the next governor of the commonwealth, I will always condemn violent language in our politics.”
