ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1440 Hints, Clues And Answer For Thursday, May 29thBy Erik Kain

It’s the last Friday of May. The best month of the year is almost here—June, the month of your humble narrator’s birth—but before we can celebrate, we have a Wordle to solve. Since it’s 2XP Friday, be sure to double your points for good or bad if you’re playing Competitive Wordle. Let’s get right to it!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: It’s raining cats and dogs.

The Clue: This Wordle has a double letter.

Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming!

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

CLOUT wasn’t a great opener today, leaving me with 251 words and just one yellow box. Apparently RAMEN would have been a better second guess than SPAIN, according to Wordle Bot, but at least I was down to just 8 words and had a second vowel. VIDEO, despite being a radio star killer, was not the answer but it left me with just one possible solution: IDIOM for the win!

Competitive Wordle Score

Another tie, another zero point day for both the Bot and myself. Sort of disappointing since we don’t get to double nothing. Our May totals remain at:

Erik: 22 points

Wordle Bot: 15 points

I don’t think there’s a way for Wordle Bot to win at this point. Even if I lose three points by failing completely and the Bot gets it on its first try, that would be 19 for me and 19 for the Bot. A tie is the best it can hope for, and the likelihood of that outcome is next to nothing.

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word idiom comes from the Greek “idiōma”, meaning peculiarity or private property, derived from “idios”, meaning one’s own or private. It passed into Latin as idioma, then into French, and finally into English in the 16th century. Originally, it referred to a particular style or form of expression unique to a person or group.
