ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1437 Hints, Clues And Answer For Monday, May 26thBy Erik Kain

It’s hard to believe that it’s already the end of May. Just a few more days before we shove off into June and sail into summer. I’m ready for the longer days and warmer weather. Now if only my bad back would catch up with the rest of me! Ah well. You don’t need a good back to solve a Wordle, so let’s solve today’s.

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Athletics.

The Clue: This Wordle has far more consonants than vowels.

Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming!

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

CASTE was a good opener, though not a great one, leaving me with just 72 words and two yellow boxes. HOIST slashed that number down to just six, though I only had one green box at this point. I came up with a handful of words and tried my best to recall what had already been a Wordle. SHOUT, I was pretty sure. SNORT and SNOUT also. Finally I just winged it and went with SPORT. Lucky for me, winging it worked!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying the Bot, which is exactly what the Bot gets also. Our May totals, as the month races to a close, are now:

Erik: 21 points

Wordle Bot: 16 points

With a 2XP Friday coming up before the month is out, this is still anyone’s game!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word sport comes from the Old French desport meaning “pleasure, amusement, enjoyment,” which itself comes from desporter (“to divert, amuse”). This derives from Latin deportare, meaning “to carry away” or “to divert.” By the late 14th century in English, sport referred to playful activity, and by the 15th century, it began to refer more specifically to physical games and athletic contests.
