ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1436 Hints, Clues And Answer For Sunday, May 25thBy Erik Kain

Monday has arrived. I’m down to my last few days in Scotland, having made it across vast swaths of the country in an effort to see as much of it as possible. It’s always interesting going somewhere for the first time and having no idea really where to go or what to do. It’s almost like scouting it out for the next time. I definitely have a good idea of where I’d like to go if I ever return.

In any case, I’m living out of a suitcase and I’m admittedly a bit tired and homesick no matter how lovely this country is. But enough rambling, let’s solve this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: A new type of warfare.

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

It’s always a bit of a shame to start so strong and still not make it in three. SCORE left me with just 14 remaining words and three boxes filled in, but of course when you have the O and E in green, it’s a bit tough to know what to guess since pretty much every word is going to have the same shape. I went with PIVOT because I came up with several words with P, V and T in them, though also D and unfortunately that was the letter I needed most of all. I got it with ERODE but in retrospect, I should have guessed DRONE rather than use a word with two E’s. Oh well!

Competitive Wordle Score

I’ve had a nice winning streak against the Bot lately, so it’s only fair that it gets a win today. I get 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot. The Bot gets 1 point for guessing in three and 1 for beating me. This brings our May scores to:

Erik: 20 points

Wordle Bot: 15 points

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “drone” comes from Old English drān or drǣn, meaning “male bee”, which itself comes from Proto-Germanic drānaz. The word was likely imitative of the deep humming sound male bees make. By the 16th century, drone also came to mean a dull, continuous humming sound, and later, someone blindly follows orders similar to a bee. The modern meaning of unmanned aerial vehicle arose in the 20th century, drawing on these older meanings.
