Sunday is here, and while it’s very lovely out and I encourage everyone to break up their laziness with some outdoor fun, it’s also a great day to kick back with a good TV show or movie.

I have a most excellent recommendation this weekend: Ludwig, a new mystery series from the BBC now out on BritBox. It’s about a master puzzle-setter who finds himself caught up in a mystery, impersonating a police detective and solving murders the way he’d normally solve complex puzzles. Kind of perfect for Wordle solvers! You can read my review here, and check out my weekend streaming guide here.

Now let’s solve this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: One of the seven dwarfs.

The Clue: This Wordle begins with a consonant.

Okay, spoilers below!

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

My hint today is fitting. It’s the reason I guessed the Wordle on my third guess. I’d just recently written a post about the new Snow White film and as I was coming up with possible guesses for my third guess, I came up with DOPEY. With princesses and dwarfs on my mind, this seemed like a fitting guess. I was lucky when it ended up being the Wordle! Very lucky, since SKATE left me with 399 words and LINER only cut that to 49. Hi-ho, hi-ho!

Competitive Wordle Score

Today’s Wordle Bot

I get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying the Bot and the Bot gets the same, bringing us to . . .

My March Running Total: 20 points.

Wordle Bot’s Running Total: 7 points.

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “dopey” comes from the slang term “dope,” which originally referred to a thick sauce or gravy in Dutch (doop) but later evolved in American English to mean a drug (especially opium or narcotics). By the late 1800s, “dope” was used to describe someone under the influence of drugs, and “dopey” came to mean dazed, sluggish, or slow-witted, like someone affected by drugs. Over time, it also took on a more playful or mild sense, meaning foolish or silly.
