Perhaps the homebuilders should look into building actual housing we need — missing middle, alley oriented, walking courts and all the many iterations of urban infill that could happen if these folks weren’t so intent on single family sprawl or mega apartments in the burbs. We need co-housing for the aging, tiny housing for those in need with limited resources, and compassionate housing for those who are houseless.
Instead we have bulldozed many many adaptable buildings for “plazas” and “coming soon” mega developments like NuLu Crossings, a dead project mirroring the utter lack of appropriate affordable options in urban neighborhoods. Half of the land west of Interstate 65 is vacant. You want density? It’s been waiting for years. Unfortunately, we are intent upon further demolition and more vacant fallow land aka Urban Government Center. Hurry up and wait.
