“They Will Not Intimidate Me” – Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver Remains Defiant at Arraignment, Pleads Not Guilty to Federal Charges After Assaulting Federal Agents

Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver was arraigned on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty.

Earlier this month a federal grand jury returned a 3-count indictment charging Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver with forcibly impeding and interfering with federal law enforcement officers at the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark last month.

McIver is facing a maximum of 17 years in prison for all three counts.

The New Jersey Democrat remained defiant after her arraignment and told reporters, “They will not intimidate me.”

CBS News reported:

New Jersey Rep. LaMonica McIver pleaded not guilty Wednesday on charges of assaulting, impeding and interfering with law enforcement related to a clash at the ICE detention facility at Delaney Hall in Newark.

McIver’s supporters, including Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and immigrants rights groups, rallied outside of federal court in Newark to call for the charges to be dropped.

McIver pleaded not guilty. If convicted, she faces eight years in prison.

“Congresswoman McIver pleaded not guilty because she is not guilty. On May 9, she was at Delaney Hall to carry out her responsibilities as Member of Congress. She was there to inspect an ICE detention facility and to see for herself whether the Trump administration is obeying the laws and Constitution of the United States. ICE responded by creating a risky and dangerous situation, and now the Justice Department is doubling down by trying to punish the Congresswoman for doing her job,” McIver’s attorney Paul Fishman said. “We are eager to challenge this case on multiple grounds and we are confident that the legal process will ultimately vindicate the Congresswoman.”

LaMonica McIver was seen entering the courthouse with her attorneys on Wednesday.

Rep. LaMonica McIver verbally abused and physically assaulted federal agents at a detention facility in Newark last month.

ICE bodycam footage revealed Rep. LaMonica McIver was verbally abusing federal agents and threatening to destroy their careers.

“I touch whoever I want motherf*cker!” McIver shouted.
