The Lumineers now claim the fifth-most No. 1s on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart, … [+]
Getty ImagesThe Lumineers are back in charge of a Billboard chart this week, as one of the band’s most recent singles soars to the top spot. As the indie-folk group snags another winner, the Grammy nominees tie with several other beloved figures in the music industry on an important and historic ranking.
“Same Old Song” jumps from No. 3 to No. 1 on this week’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart. The Lumineers’ track needed just five frames to rise all the way to the highest rung, and it quickly adds to the group’s list of champions.
Throughout the years that the rockers have been together, The Lumineers have collected eight No. 1s on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart. As the group collects its eighth leader, the musicians tie with The Black Keys, Death Cab for Cutie, and John Mayer for the fifth-most rulers among all acts.
U2 leads the way when it comes to the greatest number of No. 1s, as the Irish rock favorites have collected 14 winners. Coldplay comes in a very close second place with a lucky 13.
Jack Johnson and the Dave Matthews Band are tied for the third-most No. 1s on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart, according to Billboard. However, that number is slightly deceptive when it comes to one of those names. The actual Dave Matthews Band has not earned 11 rulers, though the chart company lumps in two solo smashes by Dave Matthews himself into the act’s cumulative total.
“Same Old Song” takes over the top spot on the Adult Alternative Airplay list from “Arrow” by The Head and the Heart. This frame, that recent winner dips from No. 1 to No. 4 as The Lumineers surge from No. 3 to first place.
“Same Old Song” serves as the lead single from The Lumineers’ new album, Automatic. The full-length dropped on February 14 and is already being supported by a second focus release, “You’re All I Got/So Long.” The double-sided single is being pushed to radio just as the first cut from the full-length earns a moment in the spotlight.
