The Assistant Dean of Students at a Tennessee university has no sympathy for assassinated Turning Point USA cofounder Charlie Kirk.
Laura Sosh-Lightsy, Assistant Dean of Students at Middle Tennessee State University, posted on Facebook she had “zero sympathy” for Kirk, who was assassinated Wednesday at a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University, promoting civil discourse.
“Looks like ol’ Charlie spoke his fate into existence,” Sosh-Lightsy said. “Hate begets hate. ZERO sympathy.”
She appears to have deleted her Facebook account.
But her comments sparked widespread outrage, including from Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who represents Tennessee, home of MTSU. Blackburn called for the assistant dean to be fired.
“Charlie Kirk was an inspiration for so many young people to speak up and work towards a better country, and nowhere was that more true than our college campuses,” Blackburn replied to Hurtt’s tweet about Sosh-Lightsy’s comments. “She should be fired tomorrow.”
Other Tennessee politicians joined in, including Rep. Jason Zachary, a Republican from the Tennessee state House.
“As an MTSU alum, I’m disgusted,” Zachary posted to X. “A person who has so little regard for basic decency, the value of life and then lacks the common sence (sic) to not post such vile, should NOT be in leadership at one of our universities. If you are a parent or student at MTSU, I encourage you to contact the school tomorrow requesting immediate action be taken. This person should not be employed in higher education in TN. I’ll be reaching out tomorrow as well.”
UPDATE: Sosh-Lightsy has been fired, according to a statement from MTSU President Sidney McPhee posted to X by @libsoftiktok.
