The mayor of a Brussels suburb has denounced what he described as “terrorism” and called for reinforcements after a series of explosions linked to gang violence struck the EU capital this week.
At least five blasts have been reported in recent days in Saint-Gilles, a vibrant Brussels district that is also home to many EU officials.
The latest incident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday outside a shisha bar on Rue Theodore Verhaegen near Barriere de Saint-Gilles. The explosion damaged the venue and nearby homes, and shattered windows at a school across the street. No injuries were reported.
