A mock crash scene will be set up in Hesperia this week as the California Highway Patrol brings its long-running “Every 15 Minutes” DUI education campaign to Oak Hills High School.
The program is designed to educate young drivers on the dangers and brutal realities that accompany driving while intoxicated, according to the CHP.
The simulated crash scene will be placed about 10 a.m. along Coyote Trail, north of Ranchero Road.

“The mock crash will take place for approximately one hour and there will be a high concentration of emergency vehicles accessing the scene from Coyote Trail,” the CHP said in a written statement. “We would like to ensure the public is aware this is a mock emergency incident, and no real emergency actually exists.”
The two-day educational campaign “demonstrates to high school students the impact drinking and driving has on friends, families, and their community,” according to the statement.
First responders and others will take part in the dramatization, ” just as an actual crash would require,” the statement added.
The following day, a mock funeral will be held during a student assembly.
Partners in this week’s program include the CHP, the city of Hesperia, the Hesperia School Police Department, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the San Bernardino County Fire Department, Affordable Cremations and Burial, Victor Valley College Nursing Program, G&M Towing and more, organizers said.
Funding for the campaign is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
